Poland’s President Aleksander Kwasniewski is expected to participate in the GUUAM Summit that is going to unfold on April 22, in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

According to the Ukrainian press, Aleksander Kwasniewski will arrive in Chisinau at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yushchenko. <\/p>\n

Chisinau authorities have earlier invited Presidents of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania and representatives of the European Union to the SummIt. <\/p>\n

GUUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaidjan and Moldova) was created in 1997 aiming at bilateral and regional economic cooperation, activation of political contacts, ensurance of stability and security in the region. The declaration of constitution was signed in Brussels. But in all these years GUUAM was more an artificial construction, Chisinau authorities declaring even their intention to withdraw from this organization. <\/p>\n

Asked by REPORTER.MD, western analyst Vladimir Socor said that GUUAM’s reanimation is necessary in the new political context, and Romania’s and Poland’s interest to become associate members of this organization can contribute to GUUAM’s relaunching. “The opposition between CIS and GUUAM because the four constituent countries detached from Moscow and declared they want to be part of Europe is irrelevant,” stated Socor. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, “we must greet the fact that the GUUAM Summit will take place in Chisinau, as it is a sign that Moldova is clearly outlined on the political map of Europe.
