President Vladimir Voronin appointed Vasile Tarlev for a new mandate of Prime Minister and charged him to reform radically the executive structure, so that those currently existing 16 ministries and 14 departments to be transformed at the most into 17 ministries, and state officials to be hired on the basis of competitive examination. <\/p>\n

In his speech of presenting the candidacy for the position of Prime Minister, Voronin underlined that the main task of the new Government will be the country’s modernization, a task that in his opinion could not be achieved by the old Government. At the same time, he mentioned that the formation of a more compact Government and hiring of public officials on the basis of competitive examination would enable to increase functionaries’ salaries up to 400-1500 dollars, to attract to state structures highly qualified specialists who now are engaged in business and international projects. It would also allow increasing considerably the responsibility and efficiency at decision making. According to Vladimir Voronin, the current 14 departments will be "absorbed" by those 16 ministries that exist now, so as to form a Cabinet of Ministers with at most 17 ministerial portfolios. This reformation of the governmental structure must be done by July 2006, mentioned the head of state. <\/p>\n

In his turn, Vasile Tarlve stated for the press that he would follow the requirements of the head of state when forming a new Cabinet of Ministers and will recommend the Parliament the candidacies for ministerial seats not later than April 15, currently. <\/p>\n
