President Vladimir Voronin had a meeting with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Jean Fournet who is on a working visit to Chisinau. Those two officials have discussed issues of cooperation in the field of regional security, combating illegal migration.
According to the presidential press service, the head of state discussed with the NATO official the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the North-Atlantic Alliance as part of the program Partnership for Peace, Vladimir Voronin mentioning Moldovan authorities’ willingness to pass to a new qualitative stage in program’s implementation. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin expressed the interest of our country in continuing the cooperation between the scientific community of our country and Euro-Atlantic network of scientific research of the Program Security for Science. He backed the proposal forwarded by Jean Fournet referring to the creation in Chisinau of a NATO information center at an institution from the country. <\/p>\n

The head of state also mentioned Moldova’s interest in the institution of an international monitoring on the Transdniestrian segment of Moldova-Ukraine border, thing that would stop contraband, human and armament trafficking typical of this zone. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin stated that Chisinau authorities share European and international institutions’ concern over the illegal migration, especially taking into account the fact that our territory is crossed by one of the corridors of illegal migration from east to west. He also announced Moldovan authorities’ intention to open in the near future a regional anti-traffic center that would coordinate the efforts oriented towards the decrease of this phenomenon’s proportions. <\/p>\n
