Parliamentary Parties Have Signed a Declaration on Political Partnership<\/p>\n

March 24, 2005<\/p>\n

The Parliament of XVI legislature adopted on Thursday unanimously a declaration regarding the political partnership with a view to achieving the objective of integration into the European Union. All those four political parties of the Parliament engaged themselves to cooperate with a view to implementing Moldova-EU Plan of Actions in the next four years. <\/p>\n

The initiative of signing this declaration belongs to speaker Marian Lupu, who underlined that the document will not have a concrete juridical value, but will represent more a civil and political commitment of cooperation – “the single chance for current Parliament’s efficiency.” <\/p>\n

The declaration states that those four parliamentary factions will cooperate for building an independent justice system that would correspond to the standards of the European community, for creating an efficient social protection and reducing the poverty level, for developing a socially-oriented market economy with a favorable investment climate and other directions of strategic development of the Moldovan state. <\/p>\n

The document reads that the peaceful settlement of the Transdniestrian issue must be achieved on the basis of Moldova’s Constitution and of the international norms, in cooperation with the USA, EU, Ukraine, Romania, Russia and OSCE. At the same time, the Transdniestrian region must be urgently democratized and decriminalized, and an efficient customs and border control must be set up on the Transdniestrian segment of the Moldo-Ukrainian frontier. The declaration says that Russia must fulfill the commitments of withdrawing its military presence from the left bank of the Dniester which it assumed in Istanbul. <\/p>\n

“All these represent a positive factor in the consolidation of the regional and European security,” claims the document. <\/p>\n

Another aspect addressed in the declaration of partnership is that “of the necessity of consolidating the political efforts for developing and fortifying the role of the state language as language of the majoritarian population of the country, as well as for developing the languages and cultures of all the national minorities in Moldova on the basis of the European standards.” <\/p>\n
