\"\"The Social Liberal Party of the Democratic Moldova voting bloc offered to the Democratic Party and bloc’s Moldova Noastra Alliance (MNA) to nominate Andrei Ivantoc as a candidate for the President of Moldova. Ivantoc, one of the Ilie Ilascu group, has been serving a long sentence at a Tiraspol prison for terrorist activity during the 1992 armed conflict in Transnistria. <\/p>\n

The Social Liberals, having 3 deputies in parliament, are against boycotting the April 4 election of President by parliament. At the same time, they do not wish to vote for a candidate that will be nominated by the majority Communist Party faction. They strongly condemn the Communists’ unwillingness to conduct a civilized, open and constructive dialog with the democratic opposition. <\/p>\n

The Social Liberal Party is concerned over "strained atmosphere existing in the Democratic Moldova voting bloc, and over a realistic possibility of bloc’s split". The party urged MNA deputies to accept the Democratic Party’s proposal to remain a bloc’s integral part, even in conditions when the Democrats have themselves formed a separate parliamentary faction. <\/p>\n

The Social Liberals believe the existence of the Democratic Party faction should not be regarded as the party’s secession from the bloc. "Party’s exclusion from the bloc and making an enemy of it would be disadvantageous to all democratic forces in Moldova.
