The C\"\"entral Electoral Commission adopted a decision today permitting university and college students, including those from Transnistria, to vote at any polling station they wish. <\/p>\n

According to this decision, universities and colleges must submit to the Commission, by February 14, lists of their provincial students. The CEC will examine those lists and will decide who of the students shall be given such written permits to vote at stations they choose. <\/p>\n

Accordingly, electoral commissions at the students’ native places will be informed about that beforehand, so they will cancel the young people from their voter rolls. This should exclude repeated voting. <\/p>\n

The Central Electoral Commission had to pass that decision in response to protests coming these days from many political parties which are protesting against forcing students to vote only at their native places. The Federation of Student and Youth Organizations even warned it might bring students out into streets if they are not provided possibilities to vote in towns where they study. <\/p>\n

The CEC today considered that problem, but did not care to present its draft decision to the representatives of candidate parties at the Commission, causing their strong indignation. Spokesman Nicolae Garbu of the Democratic Moldova voting bloc demanded to read the draft decision before voting for it. However, his demand was rejected. CEC members thought it was quite enough that the draft document was simply announced prior to putting it to the vote. <\/p>\n
