On the left bank of Nistru river, after driving through tens of kilometers of serpentines and rocky hills where trees grow, we reach the village of Podoima, Camenca rayon. The villagers here can take walks in the beautiful park, ride their bikes to the grocery store and handle the reins of the horses pulling the carriage with hay.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Here the time stands still, and Nistru lightly stirs its water in the wind, and people feel happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On the outskirts of the village you notice a gate wide open. A woman carved in stone looks at you from the entry of the yard, and behind her you see a beautiful and colorful rose garden. The flowers\u2019 sweet perfume lures the bees, but also the people coming to have a rest at \u201cDimDimicei\u201d recreational area.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dumitru Oli\u0219anschi used to be a cook and a car mechanic. More than two decades ago, the lands where he used to play when he was a child were abandoned and invaded by weeds, blocking any pathway to Nistru. His children would spend most of their days here, and Dumitru would come here when he was sad. \u201cFrom up there, a beautiful view opened towards Nistru. And you didn\u2019t need anything else,\u201d says the man wearing a straw hat with curved brims.<\/span><\/p>

He arranges the collar of his blue checkered shirt and pats the rusty red motorcycle with his callous palm. \u201cIt hurt me to see that people didn\u2019t take care of these lands. But I understood that they live too far away and the soil wasn\u2019t so fertile after being neglected and abandoned for so many years,\u201d he recalls. So he went to speak with each of the owners and bought their lots. \u201cActually, it was then when the hardships started,\u201d he admits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Together with his wife Valentina they have cleaned the three hectares of land and planted over 4000 trees and many many flowers. \u201cWe would spend all our time here. After work, we would come here and do the other work – one for the heart,\u201d he smiles, looking around. Dumitru admits that even now this transformation seems surreal, but he’s very happy that they\u2019ve managed to build a small oasis in the village where he was born, where he grew up and had a family.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
