Apart from a few historic monuments that were renovated, the rest of the important buildings in the city centre have been demolished or abandoned, waiting for official papers to be destroyed. New buildings are erected in their place, regardless of style or height of the surrounding constructions, distance between buildings, connection with the main roads or availability of parking lots, etc. Thus, one can often see in Chisinau a newly built office or residential house next to a historic monument from the 19th century and in the immediate vicinity of several Soviet buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a new scandal broke in Chisinau City Hall regarding the <strong>National Hotel<\/strong> &#8211; a building left in ruins since 2005. <span style=\"color: #993300;\">The hotel was one of the most important accommodation units owned by the Government until the 90s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Built between\u00a0 1974-1978 in the heart of the capital city, the National Hotel (Intourist Hotel in the past) was firstly attempted to be privatized in 1999 by an Israeli company. One project was discussed by the City Council, a different one was presented to the public.
