The Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection (MHLSP) announced<\/a> today that 39 900 jabs of Sputnik V vaccine were distributed to Moldovan vaccination centres for the administration of the first dose. The decision was taken by authorities after the arrival of the Russian vaccine second component on April 30. In total, a humanitarian aid of 80 thousand <\/strong>jabs of Sputnik V (both components) was received, which will be used for the immunization of 40 thousand people.<\/p>\n

Also last week, MHLSP stated that 150 thousand<\/strong> jabs produced by the Chinese company Sinopharm, were donated to the Republic of Moldova by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The batch arrived to the National Agency of Public Health (NAPH) on April 27, along with 100 thousand<\/strong> doses of CoronaVac vaccine, produced by Sinovac (also Chinese), which were purchased by contracting the manufacturer.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the immunization with AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) booster doses began, as more than 83 thousand<\/strong> jabs were distributed throughout the country last week.<\/p>\n

Overall, more than 150 thousand<\/strong> doses have been administered and more than 18 thousand<\/strong> people have been fully vaccinated since the beginning of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in the Republic of Moldova, as MHLSP informed<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One could say that Moldovan citizens have bigger choice now when selecting the vaccine they want to get. In reality though, some people who are supposed to be vaccinated in stage two give up the jab distributed to them in favour of another vaccine that would come soon. For example, doctors from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of\u00a0Gagauzia returned<\/a> the AstraZeneca vaccine to the authorities, saying that they would be rather vaccinated with Sputnik V. This formed<\/a> a gap in the total number of vaccinated people in Gagauzia (34 administered jabs) when compared to other neighbouring districts (Cahul – 3590, Cantemir – 1730, Leova 1340 or Cimislia 1780).<\/p>\n\n[aesop_image img=”https:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/moldova-harta-vaccinare.jpg” panorama=”off” align=”center” lightbox=”on” captionsrc=”custom” caption=”Source: vaccinare.gov.md” captionposition=”left” revealfx=”off” overlay_revealfx=”off”]\n

Such cases, which occurred not only in Gagauzia and not only with Sputnik V, led to logistics issues that required quick resolution. Thus, cases when general population was called and invited to get vaccinated became more and more often, in order not to lose vaccine jabs, doctors claimed.<\/p>\n

A survey<\/a> conducted by WHO Regional Office for Europe<\/strong> and presented by MHLSP showed that 41% of respondents would agree to be vaccinated<\/span> (compared to 31% in previous studies). The share of people who said they surely would not be vaccinated has decreased by 9% (from 46% to 37%). Of the respondents who agreed to be vaccinated, 41% would accept any vaccine<\/span> offered by NAPH. The biggest concerns of people when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines are related to side effects and rumours of vaccines’ low effectiveness.<\/p>\n
