The National Agency for Public Health (NAPH) announced<\/a> today that more than 38 000<\/strong> people have been vaccinated in Moldova since the beginning of vaccination campaign. 52% of medical workers were vaccinated, 86% of all jabs were used, 38% of the regions used all previously distributed jabs. More than 118 thousand vaccine shots were received already, whereas 100 620 additional Pfizer-BioNTech jabs were allocated through the COVAX platform. The new vaccine batch should arrive by the end of June, as President Maia Sandu<\/strong> informed<\/a> today.<\/p>\n

“The vaccine should be administered primarily to medical staff and people at risk, such as teachers, the elderly and people with health issues. It is inadmissible for some people to be immunized without waiting in line and, thus, to leave doctors and other categories at risk in great danger,”<\/em> the president mentioned. She referred to the recently discovered cases where state officials at district and local levels were given the vaccine, despite the fact that they were not supposed to receive it at the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the National Immunization Plan<\/a>, the first target group to be prioritized for COVID-19 immunization are medical workers. On March 25, residents of asylums and temporary or long-term placement centres started<\/a> to be vaccinated as well. Other categories of population were not included in the official priority list yet, due to the limited number of available jabs. After medical workers, social workers are to be vaccinated, and later, the adults over the age of 60 and people with comorbidities.<\/p>\n

Still, allegations of vicious vaccination process were made<\/a> by Ala Nemerenco<\/strong>, Presidential Health Adviser. The official mentioned that vaccination based on nepotism and bribery has been performed lately. “I received several messages from doctors who were included in the vaccination list, but they did not get the vaccine because other people were vaccinated,”<\/em> she wrote. Instead, district councillors, their families, business owners were vaccinated, as Nemerenco said.<\/p>\n

Mayors, district councillors, business owners and heads of hospitals from several northern and southern districts were interrogated regarding the vicious vaccination process. Some of them confirmed<\/a> they were immunized, but that was only because “there were doses of vaccine available, which could be lost if not used urgently.”<\/em> Therefore, they were invited by their family physician or hospital administration to get the vaccine.<\/p>\n

Other officials posted their vaccination certificates on social media. That was the case of a district councillor from Cahul who first declared<\/a>, when asked how he got the vaccine, that he was vaccinated in Romania. That is while his certificate was in Russian. Later on, he admitted<\/a> he lied: “I was vaccinated in the country, voluntarily, being invited by my family physician. I was not vaccinated as a privilege,”<\/em> the councillor said.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the officials who didn’t respect the staging of vaccination urged others to do the same. Vice president of Singerei district, who was vaccinated on March 26, while not being part of target categories that are immunized during this period, made<\/a> such a statement: “Call your family doctor and make an appointment. You better put your name on the list, then the doctor will call you at a certain time for vaccination. No matter what is your job, what category you are in. It does not matter. People have the right to be vaccinated,”<\/em> the official claimed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Several hospitals’ administration stated that employees of city halls, police officers, socials assistants and even teachers got vaccinated according to the National Immunization Plan, given that there were enough vaccine jabs. “We have received 330 jabs of AstraZeneca. Medical workers were immunized. The number of medical workers who wanted to get vaccinated was almost over when we received the Pfizer vaccine. That one had some very limited storage conditions [-70 degrees] and we couldn’t provide them. The vaccine had a limited shelf life of 3-4 days. In this way, after medical employees were vaccinated, we proceeded to the next stage,”<\/em> head of the district hospital from Cantemir declared<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Priority is given to persons who correspond to the following contingents and are invited to be immunized as a matter of urgency,”<\/em> explained<\/a> representatives of NAPH. The institution’s representative, Ninel Revenco<\/strong>, stated that a commission was organized within the National Coordinating Committee for Immunizations to examine all cases in which the staging of the immunization process was not respected. “The role of this commission is to examine extreme cases where there are suspicions of ambiguity in the vaccination process, especially regarding the vaccination stages,”<\/em> she also declared<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the moment, the vaccination process seems really poorly coordinated, since there are cases of medical workers who claim not to be vaccinated yet (even if they agreed to do so), hospital management who face the problem of jabs storage and aleatorily contact representatives of any target groups (just not to loose the jabs),whereas district and city hall officials get vaccinated, even though they are not part of any prioritized target group, lying and justifying their actions in the press.<\/p>\n
