State media institutions, along with the private outlets, present more or less the same vision on all issues, as it is mentioned in a <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomhouse.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-02\/7-Transnistria_Media_Change_ROMANIAN.pdf\">synthesis<\/a> presenting the situation of the Transnistrian press. Furthermore, authorities from Tiraspol seem to apply the same control strategy when it comes to the journalists from the right bank of the Dniester who enter the Security Zone or the Transnistrian region, trying to collect information for their media products.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist <strong>Andrei Captarenco<\/strong> reported, in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LwE4VlibUuw\">press conference<\/a>, multiple cases of failed requests to gain accreditation from Transnistrian authorities, which were needed for recording videos or making research. In February 2021, a team of journalists returning from the Security Zone <span style=\"color: #993300;\">was stopped and asked to delete all videos recorded by their dashboard camera<\/span>. The injunction wasn&#8217;t backed up by any legal act or regulation. The journalists called the police and asked for representatives of the Joint Control Commission (JCC). In the end, they still had to delete the videos, as Promo-LEX <a href=\"https:\/\/promolex.md\/19552-jurnalistii-sunt-descurajati-sa-si-faca-meseria-in-regiunea-transnistreana-expert\/?lang=ro\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even when the press enters the Security Zone aiming to research social issues, nothing related to the activity of military units, journalists are still intimidated, discouraged to do their job, sometimes detained for several hours or days, whereas Moldovan authorities do not react to this.<em> &#8220;We do our job, but we are called instigators. When you try to turn on the camera, people in uniform appear in just 10 seconds. They block the filming process and start long discussions. [&#8230;] It all depends on the mood of the man on duty that day,&#8221;<\/em> explained <strong>Viorica Tataru<\/strong>, another journalist who experienced the same situation.<\/p>\n<p>The journalists specified that they do not enter or film on the clearly delimited territories of peacemakers&#8217; posts. At the same time, there are signs drawn on A4 sheets, barriers made of plastic bottles, and wooden bars, <em>&#8220;which do not look at all like indicators installed according to the law,&#8221;<\/em> journalists claimed, most probably referring to the illegal border checkpoints established in the Security Zone.<\/p>\n<p>The director of the Human Rights Program at Promo-LEX, <strong>Vadim Vieru<\/strong>, believes that the cases involving Moldovan journalists&#8217; intimidation raises questions about the status of the peacekeeping mission, whereas the lack of reaction from national or international organisations may lead to impunity and to more such possible cases. <em>&#8220;A serious attitude towards freedom of expression is needed when journalists go to the Security Zone to document social issues. They must have certain guarantees and protection, provided by the constitution and put into practice by law enforcement agencies, including the police,&#8221;<\/em> he <a href=\"https:\/\/promolex.md\/19552-jurnalistii-sunt-descurajati-sa-si-faca-meseria-in-regiunea-transnistreana-expert\/?lang=ro\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer <strong>Cristina Durnea<\/strong> highlighted the fact that such events show <span style=\"color: #993300;\">that the Republic of Moldova is incapable of ensuring rights guaranteed by its own legislation for its citizens.<\/span> According to her, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova and the Joint Control Commission should have used the existing means to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Index on the Situation of the Press in Moldova (ISPM)<\/strong> showed that the situation of the Moldovan press has been serious for 5 years in a row. In 2020, it was directly affected by political instability and economic hardships amplified by the pandemic crisis.
