The situation remains unfavourable, as the number of confirmed cases increased by <strong>17.9%<\/strong>\u00a0last week (comparing to a week before that).<a href=\"https:\/\/gismoldova.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/opsdashboard\/index.html#\/d274da857ed345efa66e1fbc959b021b\">To date<\/a>, there are <span style=\"color: #993300;\">171 514<\/span> confirmed cases, <span style=\"color: #993300;\">12 985<\/span> active cases, out of which 282 are critical. A total of 3 678 Moldovans died because of COVID-19 infection since the beginning of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The most worrying epidemiological evolution is recorded in the capital city. Lately, the municipality authorities announced that hospitals&#8217; capacities are stretched to the limit. <em>&#8220;In fact, municipal hospitals have 50% of the hospitalization capacity for COVID-19 patients on the national level. We see that all capacities are to the last limit. We have enormous expenses in the healthcare system and the medical staff are exhausted because they have been working in an extreme environment for almost a year,&#8221;<\/em> the mayor of the city, Ion Ceban, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/i.ceban.public\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>National Extraordinary Public Health Commission (NEPHC) <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cancelaria.gov.md\/sites\/default\/files\/cnesp_nr.45.pdf\">decided<\/a> to impose additional restrictive measures. Starting February 15, all shopping centres are closed during the weekend, commercial markets are open only 3 days per week, cinemas and nightclubs remain closed, restaurants and catering units remain closed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., the number of participants in festive events was limited to 20 guests, as well as the boarding capacity of trains and busses was restricted to maximum 50%, just as the seats in theatres and concert halls.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/msmps.gov.md\/comunicare\/noutati\/lista-statelor-pentru-care-se-impune-regimul-de-autoizolare-la-intrarea-pe-teritoriul-republicii-moldova-incepand-cu-15-februarie-2021\/\">list<\/a> of countries classified as red areas was updated: <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Albania, Andorra, Bahrain, Czech Republic, the UAE, Estonia, France, Israel, Latvia, Lebanon, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the USA and Sweden. <\/strong><\/span>Persons who enter the Republic of Moldova, while coming from red areas, have to fill in an epidemiological form, as well as a declaration on their own responsibility to comply with the self-isolation regime of 14 days in determined places.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the vaccination campaign did not start in Moldova yet, whereas the pandemic effects become a bigger burden everyday.<\/p>\n<p>On February 11, Moldovan authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/msmps.gov.md\/comunicare\/comunicate\/uniunea-europeana-si-oms-europa-isi-unesc-fortele-pentru-a-sprijini-procesul-de-livrare-si-distribuire-a-vaccinurilor-impotriva-covid-19-in-republica-moldova\/\">announced<\/a> that the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe will work together to support the delivery and distribution of vaccines against COVID-19, as well as the organization of the vaccination process in the Republic of Moldova. The project is funded by the EU and implemented by the WHO over a three-year period. It is supposed to fully cover all immunization phases &#8211; from vaccine delivery to administration, as part of a<strong> \u20ac40 million EU-funded initiative to support six countries in the WHO\/Europe<\/strong> &#8211; Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The European Union is also working to support the launch of the vaccination campaign in February, together with other international partners,&#8221;<\/em> the Ministry of Health Labour and Social Protection (MHLSP) <a href=\"https:\/\/msmps.gov.md\/comunicare\/comunicate\/uniunea-europeana-si-oms-europa-isi-unesc-fortele-pentru-a-sprijini-procesul-de-livrare-si-distribuire-a-vaccinurilor-impotriva-covid-19-in-republica-moldova\/\">informed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/fes-moldova.org\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/2020\/Publications\/Cine_plateste_factura_pandemiei.pdf\">study<\/a> conducted by <strong>Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Moldova <\/strong>(FES), in cooperation with Syndex Romania estimated that over 100 thousand employees (15% of all employees in the country) have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, because they lost their jobs or their workload diminished, along with their remuneration. A number of 30-40 thousand self-employed people who ceased their activity during the state of emergency is to be added.
