President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu<\/strong>, appointed a candidate for the position of prime minister of the country, in order to be voted in Parliament. On January 27, the head of state appointed Natalia Gavrilita<\/strong> – former Minister of Finance in the Government led by Maia Sandu.<\/p>\n

The president referred to the appointed candidate as a person she trusts, an honest and responsible professional. “I gave Ms. Gavrilita the task of creating a Government team and preparing a program focused on economic development and cleaning up state institutions of corruption. I still believe that snap parliamentary elections are the only way out of the political stalemate we have found ourselves in. […] Now, the parties in Parliament have the opportunity to show if they really want snap parliamentary elections or <\/em>they are lying and trying to set traps,”<\/em> said Maia Sandu during a press conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reactions of the political parties that are part of the current legislature followed the president’s statement. The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS)<\/strong> announced that the party would not vote for any Government submitted to this Parliament, because only in this way it would be possible to trigger snap elections. “The problem of this country is not the Government, no matter how professional it is. The problem of this country is the most corrupt Parliament in the country’s history, which will not let the Government work,”<\/em> stated<\/a> the PAS representative.<\/p>\n

All other parliamentary groups didn’t take a position on the matter of voting the proposed candidate yet, declaring that this would to be discussed in future party’s meetings. “I think that Parliament could examine this matter next week. I believe that the PSRM [the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova] must participate in the debate on the program and composition of the new Government, in order to show the citizens the quality and professionalism of Maia Sandu’s former\/current team,”<\/em> claimed<\/a> the socialist leader and former President of Moldova, Igor Dodon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If there were snap elections next Sunday, only four political parties would enter the new Parliament, as the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova<\/strong> informed<\/a> on January 26.<\/p>\n
