The Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection (MHLSP) informed<\/a> today that the state of Public Health Emergency<\/span> in the Republic of Moldova would be extended until February 15, according to the decision<\/a> of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission (NEPHC).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The NEPHC decision states that the activity of night clubs, cinemas, concert halls will be still prohibited until mid-February, along with a limited activity regime for restaurants, other public catering establishments\u00a0 (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.), as well as for theatres.<\/p>\n

An important update of previous restrictive measures is that foreign nationals coming from countries classified as red areas and holding a confirmatory act that they have got the COVID-19 vaccine,<\/span> will be able to enter the territory of the Republic of Moldova without filling in an epidemiological form, as well as a declaration on their own responsibility to comply with the self-isolation regime of 14 days in determined places.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Also today, the NEPHC members approved the National Anti-COVID-19 Immunization Plan<\/a><\/strong>, which states that medical workers and staff\/beneficiaries of the social assistance services will be immunized in the first stage. Next, vaccines will be provided for adults aged 60 and over, people with comorbidities, employees of maintaining and ensuring public order structures, defence and security of the state and workers of the penitentiary system. In the third stage, the general population will be immunized, regardless of age.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova will receive COVID-19 vaccine for 20%<\/span> of the total population, which will be provided free of charge through the COVAX platform.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the Government will have to request additional doses, through the COVAX Cost-Sharing program, for another 30%<\/span> of the total population. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova is in the process of obtaining vaccine doses as donations from the EU and other states, including Romania.<\/p>\n

\n

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in Moldova at the end of January, with the possibility of administering the vaccine in early February 2021, according to the MHLSP information<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the National Anti-COVID-19 Immunization Plan provides a series of measures related to the transport and storage of the vaccine, the responsible institutions, the management and training of human resources, but also aspects regarding the immunization monitoring system.<\/p>\n

According to the MHLSP Secretary of State, Tatiana Zat\u00eec, there are storage conditions at a temperature of + 2 + 8 \u00b0C in all medical institutions. Public Health Centres have freezers that could ensure the temperature of -20 \u00b0C, and the National Agency for Public Health has a freezer with the capacity to store 100 thousand doses of vaccine at a temperature of -70 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n

However, this wouldn’t be enough. “The purchase of 4 freezers was requested: 2 units with a temperature regime of -20 \u00b0C and 2 units with a temperature regime of -70 \u00b0C that are to be delivered until January 31,”<\/em>\u00a0the official mentioned in a press conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The National Anti-COVID-19 Immunization Plan was developed by public health professionals with support and recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) and UNICEF.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported<\/a> that the total number of COVID-19 cases in Moldova reached 150 946, of which 140 217 people recovered and 3177 people died.<\/p>\n
