An ongoing plenary session<\/a> of the Moldovan Parliament: half of MPs voting on agenda’s bills in a hurry, without any examination, discussion or debate, another part of MPs blocking the parliament rostrum, shouting “shame on you”<\/em>, people protesting in the front of Parliament, continuously coming statements of Moldovan officials – that is the exact image of the Moldovan legislature during the plenary session on December 3.<\/p>\n

The plenary session agenda included a number of 51 bills to be discussed and voted. Some of them were strongly criticised by the opposition parties who asked for postponing, additional examination and removing from the agenda. Still, because the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (DTPP) and the Democratic Party of Moldova (DPM) had the minority of votes<\/strong>, the bills remained on the agenda.<\/p>\n

Among the critical bills that were proposed to be discussed (or maybe only voted) were the set of bills on the state budget for 2021, a controversial bill on the Russian language status in the Republic of Moldova, a bill on the Gagauzia status, the bill repealing the transfer of the Republican Stadium site to the US Embassy for building a new embassy compound, as well as the bill passing the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) from the presidential control back to the parliamentary one.<\/p>\n

The drafts, signed by the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), passed in Parliament with the help of a conglomerate<\/em><\/strong> formed of socialists, as well as the Sor Party members and some ex-democratic turncoats – called the Platform “For Moldova”. A fast as lighting (lack of) procedure, which was periodically disturbed by the opposition boos and hisses, determined the fate of some crucial state matters.<\/p>\n

“Today, the union of \u0218ordon [the Sor Party and socialists led by Igor Dodon], which we talked about a few months ago, was officialised. They had no choice but to do it. Contrary to Parliament’s procedure, several doubting, contradictory bills were voted,”<\/em> said<\/a> the DTPP member, Alexandru Slusari<\/strong>, who also mentioned that the actions in Parliament will be challenged in the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, incumbent President Igor Dodon<\/strong> criticised<\/a> the way the opposition parties blocked the voting procedure: “Behave respectfully, do not resort to violence and destabilization. The state is above your will, and political decisions in the legislature are taken with a majority of votes, not struck with the fist. If you do not like the bills, come up with amendments, alternatives, go to the Constitutional Court, postpone their voting, but do not turn Parliament into the Theater of the Absurd or a boxing ring.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Outside, people gathered in a protest<\/a> against the government, which was previously announced by President-elect Maia Sandu. Protesters asked for parliamentary snap elections. From time to time, the PAS MPs were going outside to give updates to the protesters on what is happening inside.<\/p>\n

President-elect Maia Sandu<\/strong> called for a even bigger protest on Sunday, December 6. “On Sunday, we all go to the Great National Assembly Square to tell them what people think. The alliance between the PSRM and the \u0218or Party voted important bills in just a few minutes, including the budget law.<\/span> The bills were not discussed, containing multiple schemes. Igor Dodon and the socialists did not understand anything about the recent presidential election. They pretend not to hear people’s simple desire – not to be robbed. The MPs voted like machine guns, on command, law after law, in order to ensure the continuity of the thief regime despite the citizens’ vote,”<\/em> claimed Maia Sandu in a press conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Promo-LEX Association<\/strong> invited the Moldovan citizens to an online protest concerning “the the way in which a series of very important laws are hastily voted in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.<\/em>” The association expressed its concern and regret regarding the actions in the legislature. “We condemn the lack of transparency, the lack of public consultations, as well as the violation of the procedures for adopting laws in Parliament. We call on the political forces to respect the legislative procedures and other conditions of the rule of law,”<\/em><\/span> is mentioned in their statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n
