The newly elected President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had several meetings with foreign ambassadors today. First, the president-elect met with Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Peter Michalko.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maia Sandu stated that all necessary efforts will be made in order to obtain as many resources for the country as possible in the context of starting the negotiation process for a new Moldova-EU association agenda. “We will pursue an open, positive and beneficial foreign policy for the country. Selfies in the hallways are over. No more isolation. No more foreign policy for the benefit of a party and a person. We are starting a foreign policy that benefits Moldovan citizens,”<\/em>\u00a0said<\/a> Sandu.<\/p>\n

“Today, I was honoured to meet Mrs. Maia Sandu, the elected President of the Republic of Moldova. She received a very strong mandate from the country’s citizens, who voted in very large numbers – a true historical record – for her vision of the Republic of Moldova as a good place for all who live there; for a just and prosperous society where everyone’s rights are respected; for the rule of law, justice and a real fight against corruption, which will guarantee economic development and a prosperous future. The European Union is ready to support this perspective and the efforts to make it real for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,”<\/em> said<\/a> Peter Michalko.<\/p>\n

Maia Sandu stated that the mandate offered by citizens “represents continuous efforts to build strong, functional institutions in the Republic of Moldova and raise the standard of living for country’s citizens.”<\/em><\/p>\n[aesop_gallery id=”448975″ revealfx=”off” overlay_revealfx=”off”]\n

Next, Maia Sandu had common meetings with the US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan,<\/strong> but also with the representatives of the neighbouring countries: the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Ionita,<\/strong> the Russian Ambassador, Oleg Vasnetov<\/strong>, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Marko Shevchenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The president-elect emphasised that her mission is to unify the society and build a functioning state that would work for its citizens. At the same time, an active foreign policy based on the national interest would be promoted.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitrii Kuleba,<\/strong> announced that a visit of the Moldovan president-elect in Ukraine is about to be organised. “Our president invited her to visit Ukraine, so we are already working on organising this visit,”<\/em> Kuleba said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Siegfried Muresan<\/strong>, Member of the European Parliament and Head of EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, posted a message today, stating that Maia Sandu’s victory in the presidential elections is very important for the Republic of Moldova, but also for the European Union. According to him, help and involvement of the EU institutions is needed.<\/p>\n

“Of course, there is still no prime minister who wants to reform the country. Maia Sandu still does not have a strong majority in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to support her. But one thing is clear: having a pro-European president is a big change for the country and it is also very important for the European Union to have a president in our eastern neighbourhood who wants to work with the European Union and implement reforms,”<\/em> stated<\/a> the official.<\/p>\n
