The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova<\/strong> and the European Commission<\/strong> representatives signed today a financing agreement for the implementation of the project “Support facility for the response of the healthcare system to the COVID-19 emergency and implementation of reforms under the Association Agreement”<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As per the financing agreement, an assistance grant of 9 million euros<\/span> is to be provided in order “to support the Government of the Republic of Moldova in its response to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to implement the reforms undertaken under the Moldova-EU Association Agreement\/Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area,”<\/em> as it is mentioned in a note<\/a> issued by the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n

A part of the financial assistance will be delivered to the healthcare system<\/strong><\/span> in the form of critical equipment for healthcare centres and laboratories, but also counselling in case management, improving the capacity of laboratories, as well as surveillance, prevention and control of infections in the amount of 5 million euros.<\/p>\n

Additionally, a share of 2 million euros will be directed to strengthening supervisory capacity, corporate governance and risk management in the financial sector<\/strong><\/span>, that including a twinning project for the National Bank of Moldova and the National Financial Market Commission. The judiciary<\/span><\/strong> will receive 1 million euros aimed at improving transparency, accountability and access to the judiciary. Finally, the local media <\/strong>will benefit of the financial assistance as well<\/span><\/span>, to which an amount of one million euros will be directed to strengthening the independence and capacity of local media to produce high quality content.<\/p>\n

The current financing agreement is part of the EU Annual Action Programme 2020 in favour of Republic of Moldova within the European Neighbourhood Instrument – aimed at supporting political, economic and social reform processes in the neighbouring countries of the European Union.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Finance report, the direct beneficiaries of the funding will be the corresponding ministries and other public institutions such as the National Bank, the National Financial Market Commission, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the National Institute of Justice, but also the representatives of the civil society and local media outlets.<\/p>\n

The actions to be financed under the agreement will run between 2020-2026, being implemented through direct and indirect management by the European Commission, according to the established provisions of the agreement, as the Ministry of Finance representatives informed<\/a>.<\/p>\n
