Each year, Transnistria celebrates its National Day. It’s the day when the\u00a0Pridnestrovian Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (Transnistrian region nowadays) declared its ‘independence’ from the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (Republic of Moldova) back in 1990, an independence that was never recognized by most countries in the world.<\/p>\n

The leader of the region, Vadim\u00a0Krasnoselsky<\/strong>, declared the following in an interview for a Russian outlet, being cited by the Transnistrian media<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“On September 2, 1990, at the second Congress of Deputies of all levels, the Pridnestrovian Moldovan SSR was formed within the Soviet Union. It was Moldova that destroyed all the previously existing legal foundations and seceded from the Soviet Union. Transnistria, after becoming independent, continued to be part of the USSR.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Republic of Moldova declared its independence on August 27, 1991, so one year later.<\/p>\n

It could seem a joke, but it’s, actually, the existing reality in the Transnistrian region –\u00a0an invented and artificially maintained country that claims to have its own government, make its own decisions and, most important, that claims to be independent under the total control of the Soviet Union first, and of the Russian Federation now.<\/p>\n

Celebration festivities were organized all over the region today, as well as an exhibition of military equipment and a parade in the city centre of Tiraspol.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Moldova’s President Igor Dodon<\/strong> announced<\/a> he had a working meeting with Claus Neukirch<\/strong>, head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.\u00a0“The Joint Declaration of the OSCE Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs emphasises that a comprehensive, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict must be achieved on the basis of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders, with a special status for Transnistria, with guaranteed respect for political, economic and social rights of the population of the region,”<\/em> said Dodon after the meeting.<\/p>\n

On September 1, Transnistrian authorities announced 50 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus. Therefore, out of 194 samples sent to the laboratories in Chisinau, 25% turned out to be positive.<\/p>\n

According to the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs of Transnistria<\/a>, 2 243 cases<\/strong> of COVID-19 were detected since the beginning of the pandemic. 1 585 people recovered and 62 residents of Transnistria died.<\/p>\n
