Following a call for application addressed within an EU project,\u00a0via Confidence Building Measures Programme (EU CBM) and implemented by the UNDP, cultural heritage sites from the Republic of Moldova (both from the left and right banks of the Dniester) are aimed to be restored.<\/p>\n

In January 2020, a total of 248 applications<\/strong> with ideas to support local cultural heritage objects were submitted by local administrations, civil society groups, NGOs and private citizens, as it is announced on the EU CBM page<\/a>. After processing all proposals, members of the EU CBM Cultural Heritage Monitoring Group selected\u00a016 objects for a final public voting.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the end, only 10 projects will benefit of the EU funding \u2013 5 from the left bank and 5 from the right bank of the Dniester, the budget for each site being supposed to not exceed 40 000 euro.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The public can get more information on cultural heritage objects and choose one of from the list. The voting period lasts between July 14 and August 3.<\/p>\n

Voting results will count for 50% of the final decision, while the rest 50% will be represented by the conclusion of the members of the Cultural Heritage Monitoring Group.<\/p>\n

As following, just some of the cultural heritage sites from the list are presented:<\/p>\n

Water tower of Soldanesti<\/span><\/h4>\n

Built in 1893, the tower\u00a0 was initially providing water to locomotives. It is operating nowadays as well, providing services to 400 beneficiaries. The tower is built of red bricks, having a tank for water collection and a piping system located within the tower. In case it gets the EU funds, the tanks shall be replaced and indoor repairing works should be performed.\u00a0The territory would be equipped as space to get some rest and the tower would become water museum. First settlement in Moldova, Ofatinti village, Ribnita<\/span><\/h4>\n

It is an archaeological monument that marks the place where the first human settlement was discovered on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.<\/span> The construction was made of coloured mosaic concrete in 1950s. The monument was built on the spot where stone tools and ceramic statuettes, mammoth bones, bears and hyenas bones, aged at least 1 million years, had been found. The funds could be used to restore the building, perform archaeological excavations, illuminate the monument and repair the information panels. More about it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Underground city of Bicioc village, Grigoriopol<\/span><\/h4>\n

The site represents stone mines from different extraction periods, with rooms of various shapes and sizes. The limestone blocks used to build the Bender fortress<\/span> were extracted from these places. A part of these mines need to be restored. Also, the condition of the galleries needs to be investigated, some security interventions are necessary, as well as cleaning the site, fencing the entrances, lighting, and other landscaping works. The Ruins of the church of Rascov village, Camenca<\/span><\/h4>\n

The church is dates from 15th-16th centuries, according to some estimations. A lot of legends are related this place. The building is damaged. The most urgent works are aimed at stabilising and preserving the walls of the church.<\/p>\n

Digitisation of cartoons produced by Moldova-Film studio<\/span><\/h4>\n

The \u201cMoldova Film\u201d movies are considered national heritage.<\/span> There is a collection of about 1500 movies, of which 109 animation films.\u00a0 The movies are printed on 35 mm cinematographic film. Their storage and preservation require a huge space with a strict storage regime \u2013 temperature and humidity. In order to preserve them, they urgently need to be restored and digitised. More about the “Moldova Film” collection here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Windmill in Gaidar village, ATU Gagauzia<\/span><\/h4>\n

The windmill was built at the end of 19th century, being made entirely of wood, including the mechanisms that process the grain. It currently does not work but operated until 2005. The uniqueness of the mill lies in the fact that one person can manage all the processes.<\/span> Currently, the mill is in a deplorable condition. It requires a complete expertise, both the construction and of the mechanisms that set it in motion. More about the site\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
