Tiraspol authorities eliminated 15 border checkpoints<\/strong> out of a total of 37 illegal checkpoints installed in the Security Zone, as the Bureau for Reintegration Policies from Moldova<\/strong> announced<\/a>. The information was also confirmed by the Joint Military Command.<\/p>\n

“Neither the Bureau for Reintegration Policies from Moldova, nor Moldova’s delegation to Joint Control Commission want to escalate the situation. On the contrary, everybody pleads for the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,”<\/em> said Moldova\u2019s Special Representative for Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration,\u00a0Cristina Lesnic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Military observers will have to inspect the remaining posts, at the request of the Moldova’s delegation to Joint Control Commission in order to conclude the illegal and abusive nature of the remaining border checkpoints. The delegation representatives will continue the process of monitoring the situation in order to notify any incident that could happen in the context of the epidemiological situation.<\/p>\n

The 37 border checkpoints were illegally installed by the so-called Transnistrian authorities under the pretext of “sanitary control”<\/em>.<\/span> Last week, two protests were organised by the Transnistrian war veterans. The former\u00a0combatants expressed their disappointment to the Moldovan government in providing free health insurance and other social protection measures for veterans and their families. They also protested against the\u00a0passivity of Moldovan authorities regarding the illegally installed border checkpoints.<\/p>\n

The protest participants decided to block the main street of the capital city, asking to be allowed in the Parliament and discuss the problem.\u00a0The police intervened and the incident escalated into a riot, which eventually resulted in the use of physical force, tear gas and violent detention of several participants, as the Promo-LEX Association<\/strong> mentioned in an official statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n
