The Moldovan Government called on the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/strong> to send a mission to the Transnistrian region, where respecting basic human rights, including the population’s access to medical services can’t be guaranteed by the authorities from Chisinau, as it is mentioned in a press release<\/a> of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies from Moldova<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The request was made after the OSCE<\/strong> informed that a 5 + 2 meeting to resolve the Transnistrian conflict, requested by Chisinau, wouldn’t be convened. According to the Moldovan institution’s official notice<\/a>, “the Bureau uses alternative tools to find out more about the pandemic crisis realities and respect for human rights in the Transnistrian region.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

“We regret that Chisinau’s request on issues of major and vital importance, such as life and health of citizens, as well as population’s access to medical services, given the illegal barriers to free movement, have not been treated with special attention in the context of the emergency situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On April 10, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic requested the urgent convening of a meeting in the 5 + 2 format in order to discuss measures and identify quick solutions to intervene in the Transnistrian region.<\/p>\n

Also, several NGOs from Moldova have\u00a0asked<\/a>\u00a0mediators and observers of the 5+2 negotiation format to take all necessary\u00a0measures to determine the Moldovan and Transnistrian parts to cease any human rights violation in the region.<\/p>\n

The authorities from Chisinau insisted on the need to urgently assemble the meeting and called on the mediators and observers to reconsider their position in this regard.<\/p>\n

“The unilateral actions of the Transnistrian side violate human rights, especially the right to life and health, to consult a doctor, to choose a public or private medical institution, the right to free movement, as well as the access to reimbursed medicines and other vital needs. […] We reiterate that the self-isolation of the Transnistrian region on the pretext of the pandemic, impeding free movement and access to emergency medical care, as well as distorting information on the real situation of Moldovan citizens in the Transnistrian region represent serious human rights violations,”<\/em> <\/span>is also mentioned in the official notice.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the authorities from Transnistria\u00a0consider that discussions in the 5 + 2 format have no premises to be organised until the end of the quarantine measures, as the local media outlet PMR Novosti informed<\/a>\u00a0after the so-called Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria, Vitali Ignatiev, informed the Special Representative of the Russian Federation for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, Sergei Gubarev, about the “existing challenges in relations with the Republic of Moldova”<\/em>.<\/p>\n
