Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, announced, on April 10, that 5 + 2 negotiations<\/strong> were called for finding solutions in the situation of epidemiological crisis and the lack of Transnistrian authorities openness for joint crisis management.<\/p>\n

“The so-called self-isolation of the Transnistrian authorities does not fall within the legal dimension of human rights, as the access to compensated medicines and medical services was restricted to 320 thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova living in the Transnistrian region. In this regard, the World Health Organization, the development partners of the Republic of Moldova, the Ombudsman and specialised NGOs were notified,”<\/em> is mentioned in a press release<\/a> of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration mentioned that the separatist authorities didn’t respond to the invitations of the Moldovan Government to meet and discuss the pandemic situation and long term measures of preventing COVID-19 mass infection.<\/p>\n

“Another serious problem with a possible long-term impact is the installation of 18 illegal customs offices, in contradiction\u00a0 to all previous agreements, limiting free movement of persons and violating fundamental human rights. Thus, 95 doctors from the security zone informed the Bureau of Reintegration Policies that they cannot perform their work due to the quarantine measures imposed by the Transnistrian side,”<\/em> is also mentioned in the press release.<\/p>\n

On the same day, an article<\/a>\u00a0was published in the Transnistrian media, saying that in the case of Moldovan authorities “hypocritical public hysteria covers the inability to solve real problems.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The so-called Ministry of External Affairs of the separatist region noted that in the absence of convincing arguments, the Moldovan side shows a critical drop in its ability to engage in a constructive dialogue. “The attacks on the state border customs offices have an obvious speculative nature, because this area belongs to the security zone and cannot be discussed in the 5 + 2 format.\u00a0\u00a0The statements of the Moldovan side are aimed at diverting the attention of international partners and the general public from real problems.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Another decision of Transnistrian authorities refer to the activation of a medical lab in the region for processing the test results.\u00a0 Whereas nowadays all medical test samples from Transnistria are taken to authorised medical labs from Chisinau, it was decided to change that in the future and to rebuilt the laboratory within the Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases.<\/p>\n

Also, additional medical institutions are prepared for receiving patients infected with COVID-19, beside the\u00a0District Hospital of Slobozia – the only hospital that receives such patients at the moment, which has a maximum capacity of 200 places.<\/p>\n

The residents of Transnistrian region complained that they can not pay with cards other than Transnistrian ones and are forced to cross the Dniester river to Varnita village, which is quarantined since March 21, in order to\u00a0withdraw money from Moldovan ATMs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) was notified by the international payment systems Visa and MasterCard that cases of payment by credit cards\u00a0 issued by the authorised banks of Moldova through the POS terminals installed by a Russian bank in the Transnistrian region were registered. The payments were suspended by the payment systems. The NBM\u00a0 specified that payments with Visa and MasterCard in Transnistria are possible, but only if they are made through the POS terminals of banks licensed in Moldova, according to a Newsmaker.md report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In Transnistria, there were 114 confirmed cases<\/strong> of COVID-19 by April 12, including 6 deaths.<\/p>\n
