Fewer people are now residents of the country, fewer citizens were born and less of them got married or divorced. Wages, as well as expenses, have increased. The unemployment rate went down, but also the number of passengers travelling by public transport. In 2019, this number dropped by only 20 987 people, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data. However, the NBS recalculated the <span style=\"color: #993300\">population number<\/span> for the past 5 years by applying the international definition of usual residence. This means that the population number was calculated according to the data provided by the General Inspectorate of the Border Police on the number of persons who crossed the border and the duration of their stay abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore,\u00a0\u00a0the number of the population living in the Republic of Moldova was <strong>2 869 226<\/strong> in 2014. In 2018, the average salary was <strong>6 150<\/strong> lei.\u00a0 The calculated average monthly <span style=\"color: #003366\">consumption<\/span> for a single person in 2010 was <strong>1 371<\/strong> lei, and, in 2018, it was established at the level of <strong>2 407 lei<\/strong>. That means that a citizen of Moldova spent, on average, 78 lei a day, including utilities, entertainment, food, health, etc. Even though\u00a0the incomes cover the <span style=\"color: #000000\">expenses <\/span>of citizens, at least on the paper, a lot of people complain about the low purchasing power in Moldova, that being one of the main reasons of emigration to other countries.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the <span style=\"color: #003366\">unemployment rate<\/span> has decreased more than twice. A decade ago, the rate was <strong>7.4%<\/strong>, while in 2019 it reached <strong>3%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a tendency, during these years, in terms of <span style=\"color: #003366\">housing<\/span>. While the number of population decreases, the number of houses has tripled in 8 years. In 2010, <strong>2 670<\/strong> houses have been put into operation. However, the number of Russian tourists coming to the Republic of Moldova has decreased: from 14.8% in 2010 to 9% in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #993300\">number of passengers<\/span> who travelled by bus and by train decreased in the last years &#8211; number of people who travelled by bus went down from 105 694 200 in 2010 to 98 693 200 in 2018 and those who travelled by train from 4 574 600 to 1 577 500 during the same period, whereas those who flew by plane increased by almost one million (1 628 200 in 2018 as compared to 649 200 in 2010).<\/p>\n<p>This also could mean that some people have bought their own cars and avoid going on public transport.
