Every year, fewer children are born in Moldova. Thus, according to statistical data, the lowest number of newborns since independence since 2018 was registered, writes<\/a> ZdG. In 1991 the number of children was 72,000, in 2018 it dropped to 32,600, which is 4.3% less than in 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moreover, according to statistics, there is a tendency to decrease the number of mothers under the age of 20. At the same time, mothers in the urban environment are born at an older age compared to rural ones. The largest number of live births in the urban environment is recorded among mothers aged between 25-34 years and in rural areas between 20-29 years old.<\/p>\n

“Moldova is currently undergoing demographic changes with a low birth rate, working-age mortality, population aging and migratory flows, especially for those of reproductive age,” declared Boris Gilca, state secretary general.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The World Population World Report 2018 shows that Moldova is part of low fertility countries, along with such countries as Portugal, Singapore, Greece, South Korea. In these countries, couples have less than two children, below the required level of generation replacement.<\/p>\n
