Ion Tighineanu is the new president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM)<\/strong>. The academician was recently elected to this position by the General Assembly of the ASM.<\/p>\n

“I feel a great responsibility because I have received the vote of the most distinguished scientists. Nowadays, a reputation damage was caused to the ASM and we have to work hard in order to regain its good name,”\u00a0<\/em>said Ion Tighineanu.<\/p>\n

According to the law regarding the ASM, the president of the Academy is elected by the General Assembly through a secret ballot, once every four years, by the members of the Academy. Ion Tighineanu was the only contestant in the race for the position of president of the ASM.<\/p>\n

He is the author of over 550 thematic publications, including 4 monographs in English. He has 50 patents in the field of semiconductor technologies and holds 17 gold and silver medals won at international exhibitions. Ion Tighineanu is the co-author of a physics book and a university professor.<\/p>\n

Ion Tighineanu was elected the president of the ASM, after former President Gheorghe Duca resigned<\/a> in the autumn of 2018. Gheorghe Duca and his wife were accused of abuse of power and overcoming the service duties committed between January 1st, 2011 and June 30th, 2016, which caused a damage to the state budget of almost one million lei.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
