Today, the\u00a08th\u00a0<\/sup>of March, when the International Women’s Day is celebrated, a new manifestation of the March of Solidarity took place in Chi\u0219in\u0103u. According to the organizers of the event, the day of March\u00a08th\u00a0<\/sup> is the perfect opportunity to remind the whole society that there is still work to do on the gender equality aspect and that solidarity regarding this matter is really important.<\/p>\n

“The\u00a08th\u00a0<\/sup>of March is not about flowers, gifts and compliments, but about fighting for women’s equal rights, it is about power, solidarity, opportunities, and equity,<\/strong>” claimed one of the participants at the march.<\/p>\n

The March of Solidarity is organised every year by several groups of people who want to make a difference. This year, it was organised by\u00a0the Platform for Gender Equality, the OccupyGugu\u0163\u0103 Community, the National Coalition “Life Without Violence” and the GENDERDOC-M Center. The event takes place in Chi\u0219in\u0103u since 2011, resuming after a break in 2015.<\/p>\n

The march is a non-violent and a non-discriminatory manifestation. Any person can participate, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical or mental condition.<\/p>\n

According to the Global Gender Gap Report<\/a> 2018, the Republic of Moldova is ranked\u00a035th<\/sup>\u00a0out of 149 countries, having a Gender Gap Index score of 0.733 out of 1. Iceland had the best score in 2018 when it comes to the gender equality and Yemen had the worst one.<\/p>\n
