His success recipe \u2013 courage and curiosity. This is a story of tenacity, determination, passion and dreams fulfillment.<\/p>\n

About daring to start from the scratch<\/h3>\n

Vlad Calu\u0219 is 23 today. At Planable, he is responsible for marketing and business development. \u201cMy role in the company is to acquire new customers and make sure they are happy. I am doing a lot of stuff such as SEO, content marketing, social media marketing, analytics, customer support, partnership establishment, etc,\u201d<\/em> he proudly says.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Yet, at the beginnings he was a first-year student in International Relations at the Moldova State University with zero experience in marketing. \u201cI believe it was everything about giving it a chance. I really did not have many responsibilities back then, beside my studies. I was very young and thought I can get back to university anytime. That was the suitable moment to try new things, travel and start an adventure. I would say I was mostly motivated to learn & experience something new. Curiosity was my biggest drive.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Due to his job, Vlad oftentimes had to change his home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have settled in Bucharest for a year, but in the last few years I have often changed my place of residence: from Chi\u0219in\u0103u to Cluj-Napoca, from San Francisco to Chi\u0219in\u0103u, from London again to Chi\u0219in\u0103u, and then to Bucharest.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

About growing a startup company<\/h3>\n

It was never easy. The Planable development had a lot of ups and downs at the time. Sometimes, it even seemed that there is no way out, as our protagonist reveals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe managed to overcome the critical periods because we always stuck together.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From the comedown moments, when there was a lack of customers or of interest from investors, from the glorious boosts, as reaching more than 5000 brands as clients, the Techstars London or the investment of $ 120,000, it was all their own way of growing the company. \u201cWe own a lot to our team, friends, partners, the community who supported us from the very first day and the people who trusted us,\u201d<\/em> says Vlad.<\/p>\n

Vlad says that the idea of starting a company was impelled by a personal need. \u201cEach of us has been dealing with crucial team stuff since the first day. Planable emerged from our needs and I think this has also contributed to its success. When we first talked about Planable, Xenia already had a company where she was facing a challenging horde of emails exchange with customers and had troubles with the organisation of creative concepts that needed to be presented to the customers. It was a rather chaotic process from planning to obtaining the agreements, and errors often occurred. After a while, we realized that this is a problem that most marketing agencies face.\u201d<\/em> The other two co-founders of Planable \u2013 Xenia and Nicolae are the CEO and the CTO of the company, respectively.<\/p>\n

According to Vlad, during the first two years of the company development, it was particularly complicated to find a product market fit and to determine the potential clients to see the value created through the company’s product. \u201cAt the same time, it took a long time for the product to mature and become a robust product used by customers. The first success was to win at Techsylvania, it was a startup competition that helped us to reach Sillicon Valley afterwards. There were always moments when we thought it was no longer worth going further, but Xenia just made sure we stuck together and kept pushing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Planable has 9 employees at the moment. It is an online B2B real-time collaboration platform, designed to create social media campaigns, by allowing its users (advertising agencies, marketing teams, social media agencies and freelancers) to create, schedule, discuss, and plan their social media posts in an integrated environment. Reputable companies like BMW, Mini, Huawei, Virgin Mobile, Moto, Skyteam, Volkswagen are the clients of Planable.<\/p>\n

Planable set the goal to reach 5 times the current revenue by the end of the year. \u201cWe want Planable to expand on all directions of content, not just social media. Content is the strongest tool for brands now and in the future, and Planable is committed to provide a collaborative platform to make it easier for marketing teams to work. We aim to spend more time for the creative tasks and less effort (or even more structured effort) for the operational side,\u201d<\/em> Vlad explains.<\/p>\n

About the Forbes nominalisation<\/h3>\n

All three founders of Planable \u2013 Xenia Muntean, Nicolae Gudumac and Vlad Calu\u0219 were nominated<\/a> on the Forbes 2019 Europe 30 under 30<\/a> list, in the Media and Marketing category. \u201cXenia, my colleague, worked hard since September to get us nominated in Forbes. It is her achievement, and I am thankful to her as a co-founder. For us, it represents a great success and certainly the fact that we are on the same level as people we appreciate motivates us to be even better. In short, we are proud and honoured to be here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

About his future plans<\/h3>\n

An older dream of Vlad was to become a pilot. \u201cI’m getting my pilot license right now.\u201d<\/em> He also wants to travel and to launch other companies in the future. Vlad is trying to keep a work-life balance by combining the job with workout, travelling, walks and his personal life.<\/p>\n

When asked what he would have been if Planable hadn\u2019t exist in his life, he claimed he would have been somewhere in the UN developing regional projects in Eastern Europe. \u201cI’ve always had a passion for non-governmental projects and always wanted to contribute to the community. I’m actually doing this now by helping teams and young people develop their startups. Or I would have became a pilot at Emirates Airlines \u2013 it’s my childhood dream.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Vlad feels emotionally attached to his homeland country. \u201cI have there tons of friends, my family, people whom I love and whom I pay visits.\u201d<\/em> He comes back almost every two months, sometimes more often because of certain circumstances. \u201cI\u2019ve always envisioned myself staying home, helping my country, starting new projects but ended up building a company. Since the very first day of Planable I was so excited to see where it would go,\u201d<\/em> concludes Vlad.<\/p>\n
