Sorina Noroc is both a journalist and, in her spare time, a singer. Being passioned about writing and music, Sorina is learning to discover her own path, or maybe several of them. The protagonist of the today\u2019s story really knows the meaning of the word multitasking. She would certainly know how to explain it to anybody.<\/p>\n

About being a journalist, a student and a singer<\/h3>\n

Sorina manages to blend the activity of studying journalism, doing her bachelor\u2019s degree at the Babe\u0219-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with her job as a journalist and singing in StudBand – a young and talented musical band. \u201cMy studies offer me a good background and connect me with people who I wouldn\u2019t have met otherwise \u2013 my professors who have a wide experience in radio, television and communication, mentors from whom I get support and inspiration for some ideas for projects, people I meet at various events that help me better understand the society we are a part of,\u201d explains Sorina. Of course, being involved in several activities can be quite demanding, especially during the exam period, but it is totally worth the effort as it also teaches her discipline.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Sorina\u2019s success formula includes her experience in the journalistic area as well. She has a part time job at a news platform. \u201cWhen starting your work experience, you are thrown directly into the ring and you have the responsibility to do everything by the book.\u201d That is why, Sorina is thankful for every help she received from her more experienced colleagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing engaged in the field is the best way to understand if the job you are preparing for is what you really want.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During the first two years of her bachelor\u2019s degree, she was volunteering for the university radio station \u2013 UBB Radio. According to Sorina, that was a crucial period when she became accustomed to a tight schedule and got to know a lot of interesting people who were invited at a weekly show she moderated. \u201cI remember the interviews with the writer Ioana P\u00e2rvulescu or with a journalist I admire – Iuliana Tudor. I also remember one of my first journalistic experiences in Cluj. I made a reportage about the protests organised in February 2016. We went along with the protesters, took pictures, talked to them. That was the moment I understood that one must see through the eyes of his interlocutor, so that a fascinating story could be told.\u201d Every article she writes is one more chance to better understand the country she lives in. \u201cI know it will help me in the future, no matter where I will carry out my activity,\u201d Sorina states.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Being passionate about music, Sorina confesses this is the area where she feels totally free. She mentioned that if she had not got involved in journalism, she surely would have made a music career. Her singing voice could have been heard on the Cluj-Napoca stages during several public festivities. \u201cI sang on the stage at two concerts in Cluj and it was beautiful. Lately, it is a bit harder to make it to the rehearsals, but my passion gives me energy and force to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There remains almost no time for reading and chatting with friends \u2013 other things that Sorina enjoys. Nonetheless, she never gives up in trying to create a balance between all the important aspects of her life.<\/p>\n

About her \u201cgood luck\u201d<\/h3>\n

Sorina\u2019s surname \u2013 \u201cNoroc\u201d is translated as \u201cgood luck\u201d from Romanian. Paradoxically, our personage doesn\u2019t believe in luck. \u201cI think only when you get involved very much in what you are doing, the stars align to help you.\u201d However, she admits some divine intervention. \u201cI had some situations in my life when I felt that things were arranged just as they had to be. The most important moment I remember is the confidence I had about coming to Cluj. I am a person who overanalyses things. Spontaneity is not the highlight of the behavioural traits I have. However, something happened at that moment. If I were to believe more in luck, I would say yes, I was lucky to arrive in the city I am living now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

About homesickness and finding a new home<\/h3>\n

Sorina never contemplated whether she is a part of the Moldovan diaspora or whether the Romanian city that hosts her became her new home. \u201cI came with a very open attitude to everything that Romania means, and that’s what I felt from people I met here: openness, respect and appreciation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cluj-Napoca seems like a lively city to her, a city that always has streets full of people. \u201cIt will always be the city of opportunities for me. I feel connected to it and to the wonderful people I met here,\u201d reveals Sorina. Cluj-Napoca is the city she would stay in for a longer period and wouldn\u2019t easily leave.<\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Chi\u0219in\u0103u, by contrast, looks more and more deserted to her. There is a big difference when compared to Cluj-Napoca. Sorina feels sorry for that, in a way. \u201cWhat reminds me of my home town when I’m in Cluj, are the people of the Republic of Moldova, with whom I am connected. Especially, there are a lot of Moldovan students that speak the Romanian language with our local accent. That brings a smile on my face every time I hear them. It makes me feel like home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sorina believes that people can make a contribution to the development of the country they come from, even at a distance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat you have to do is to be really engaged in your work, to invest all your effort in it, to become a professional, to respect people, to cooperate with them, to bring something new, to thank for the opportunities that are offered to you and, when asked where you come from, to bluntly say: From the Republic of Moldova.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
