The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, attended several meetings and festivities during his recent official visit to Russia. By comparing his declarations and the events happening nowadays in Moldova, one could see whether the President\u2019s messages are a conscious tendency to fortify the Eastern Partnership or a superficial and hateful speech used in political interests.<\/p>\n

The President\u2019s official Facebook page is reporting on all the meetings Igor Dodon had, as well as the main topics discussed at them. The last event Dodon attended in Russia was a festivity of celebrating the 10th<\/sup> anniversary of the enthronement of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The festivity was attended by the Russian President Vladimir Putin as well.<\/p>\n

Igor Dodon declared, in a post on his official Facebook page<\/a>, that he thanked Patriarch Kirill for his activity “directed to the unity of our Churches and of all the Orthodox people, for the care for the Moldovan Orthodox Church, which is a part of the Russian Orthodox Church<\/strong>,” according to Dodon.<\/p>\n

It is already widely known that the Moldovan President declares himself an adept of the strong traditionalist values, manifesting a discriminatory attitude and promoting hateful messages towards the sexual minorities from Moldova. “I have assured Patriarch Kirill that our people will forever be united with the Russian Orthodox Church and will not admit the implantation of any anti-family ideology into our country, which destroys a person\u2019s dignity,”<\/strong> Igor Dodon declared.<\/p>\n

Few days ago, The Moldovan President met with the leader of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin. The presidents discussed the matter of the Moldovan exports in Russia and the situation in Transnistria.<\/p>\n

Dodon announced<\/a>, after the meeting with Putin, that \u201call the Moldovan goods can be already exported to the Russian market, by transiting the Ukrainian territory<\/strong>.\u201d The position of the Ukrainian government regarding this matter wasn\u2019t mentioned as being discussed.<\/p>\n

It is important to remind that Igor Dodon previously announced<\/a> that Russia cancelled customs import duties for several categories of goods from the Republic of Moldova such as vegetables, fruits, canned fruits and vegetables, and wine products, following the agreement with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on January 1st<\/sup>, 2019. In the same time, the Government of the Russian Federation decided to ban the import of Ukrainian goods, as well as goods from other countries that are brought into the Russian territory by transiting through the territory of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The official statistics<\/a> show a trend of reducing exports to Russia over the last few years, the Moldovan producers re-orienting to the European and Asian markets. \u00a0According to the National Bureau of Statistics<\/a> (NBS), in 2005, the Moldovan exports to the CIS states represented 50.5% of the total exports. It decreased to a share of 19.1% in 2017. On the other hand, the exports to the EU member states increased from a share of 40.6% of the total exports in 2005 to 65.8% in 2017. A raising trend is also registered with China, Japan, USA, South Korea and other countries. The share of the total exports for these countries raised from 8.8% in 2005 to 15.1% in 2017.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Dodon has reconfirmed his position that the final settlement of the Transnistrian conflict can be achieved in the conditions of maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.<\/p>\n

However, in the same period of time, Moldovan military representatives of the Military Commandment Force of the Joint Force of Peacekeeping have reported<\/a> several serious violations committed during January 18th<\/sup> to January 22nd<\/sup>, 2019 by the Transnistrian forces. According to the received reports, several mobile stations were placed at the border between the Moldovan and Transnistria, then relocated every time the Moldovan military observers came to document the violation.<\/p>\n

Another meeting during the Dodon\u2019s official visit to Moscow was held with Valentina Matvienko, the President of the Russian Federation Council. They talked about<\/a> the Moldovan-Russian cooperation, the intention of having the Year of Family in the Republic of Moldova, and the events planned to be held \u201con the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of our country by fascist invaders<\/strong>,\u201d as Dodon declared. Usually, Igor Dodon mentions the fascist invaders when referring to the Romanian army, as a part of Axis, that was forced to leave by the Soviet forces the territory between Prut and Dniester (the today\u2019s Republic of Moldova) in 1944.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Igor Dodon had an official discussion with Dmitry Kozak, Special Representative of the President of Russia for the development of trade and economic relations with the Republic of Moldova and with the chairman of the management board of Gazprom company, Alexei Miller.
