It is not very different from other settlements in the Republic of Moldova: isolated from the bigger cities by a difficult road, with many empty and destroyed houses, without jobs for the younger generation, and with lonely and helpless elderly people. The residents of the village have a tough living there. They don\u2019t ask too many questions and don\u2019t like to discuss politics because, as they claim, it is easier like that. This is the profile of a common voter from Moldova that will decide who will rule the country on February\u00a024<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"740\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IqL2DCnoXuM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the village, a \u2018modern cooperative\u2019 was recently inaugurated. At the manifestation, Ilan \u0218or, the leader of the \u201c\u0218or\u201d political party, and Marina Tauber, the mayor of the village, gave a speech, telling people about the \u201cdream\u201d place they want to build out of the village. They were curiously watched by a few pairs of eyes. Those were elderly people who were waiting in line, in the old post building, to receive their retirement payments. Outside, the picture is more than desolating: abandoned houses, destroyed roads and around 100 hopeless people listening the discourse. \u201c<em>We are witnessing a historical moment for our country. Now, he is doing that again, repeating the word \u2018kolkhoz\u2019, though without taking into account what it actually meant during the Soviet era when collectivization was made by constraint, and those who did not accept it were arrested, deported or disappeared without a trace. Marina Tauber invited people to walk through the soviet-style posters paid by the \u201c\u0218or\u201d Party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ion Danilov<\/strong> retired 8 years ago. He receives a payment of 1300 lei (66 euro) every month. He buys bread with this money and pays for the utilities (gas and electricity). Trying to distract himself from the pain in his leg, he estimates the amount he needs for purchasing some wood: \u201c<em>One cubic meter of wood costs 800 lei. To resist the winter, I need five. I don\u2019t know what to do<\/em> &#8230;\u201d he said quietly, with a low and hasty voice, trying to find the positive in the things that happen to him and the village he lives in. He praises the new mayor. Not because she was the best, but because others didn\u2019t do anything at all. She didn\u2019t know anything about Marina Tauber before, but anyway voted for her and, probably, would do it again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEven if they stole from us, they gave something to us too. The punishment will come into force after it becomes final. Currently, Ilan Shor is at liberty, being under judicial control, although his name appears in the Kroll report as one of the main characters involved in the Moldovan bank fraud scandal .<\/p>\n<p>Marina Tauber has been the mayor of the village Jora de Mijloc for almost a year.
