Any context or public event can be a platform for protesting against the current political state of our country.\u00a0This is the resistance group OccupyGuguta’s theme.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have decided to demolish the caf\u00e9 Gugu\u021b\u0103, they have decided to cancel the results of the elections in Chisinau, they have decided to deport innocent people, draw electoral districts, and so we decided to protest permanently, because a real patriot doesn’t only shout \u201cMoldova!\u201d and waves its flag, but also fights for Moldova’s freedom and democracy,\u201d says the Facebook message of OccupyGuguta.<\/p>\n

This time, the activists of the OccupyGugu\u021b\u0103 resistance movement<\/a>\u00a0hung a banner on the podium during the Moldova-Luxembourg match, which was held at the Zimbru metropolitan stadium. The banner said:<\/p>\n

What is OccupyGuguta?<\/h2>\n

OccupyGuguta is a permanent protest for defending democracy in the Republic of Moldova. The name “OccupyGuguta” comes from the Soviet building caf\u00e9 Guguta – an important element of the Moldovan cultural heritage, which is located in the Central Park, and which the government has decided to demolish and replace with a 40-floor hotel.<\/p>\n

The young protestors with initiative have decided to gather around the building every day and defend their rights to democracy, therefore having decided to call themselves “OccupyGuguta.”<\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9 Guguta is the place where it all started, a few before the protest got announced by the opposition parties – Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and Party of Dignity and Truth (PDA). OccupyGuguta is the only opposition, apolitical group from Moldova that makes\u00a0use of creative ways to protest and tries to encourage Moldovan youth to get more involved into the political and social life of the country.<\/p>\n

Over the summer of 2018, people the OccupyGuguta group have been gathering at the Gugu\u0163\u0103 Caf\u00e9 every day for a couple of months, not only expanding its\u00a0members, but also its moral influence.<\/p>\n

Despite Moldovan Government’s pressures on them, friendship and hope is what motivates them to resist and carry on with the non-violent ways of protesting.<\/p>\n
