22 June 2018- Maja Kocijancic, EEAS’s Spokesperson on Enlargement and Neighborhood, issued a statement<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday, June 20th, with EU’s position on the annulment of Chi\u0219in\u0103u mayoral results.<\/p>\n

Thus, the EU expects the court proceedings to respect the rule of law and democracy:<\/p>\n

(…)it is essential that the appeal proceedings are held in a fair and fully transparent manner. Mr Nastase was elected at the mayoral elections on 3 June with a popular support of the Chisinau electorate, as recognised also by observers. It is of utmost importance that the will of the voters is respected.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I am extremely worried by the non-validation of the mandate of the elected mayor of Chisinau. All observers acknowledged the results of elections in Chisinau. The will of the people has to be respected in any society that aspires to be democratic. These are European values.<\/p>\n
