Democratic Party of Moldova salutes Mrs. Andrea Nahles election as Chair of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Following the SPD conference, held last Sunday in Wiesbaden, party delegates voted Mrs. Andrea Nahles as Chair of SPD, and, for the first time in history, SPD will be headed by a woman.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Party of Moldova [leadership] is certain that the new Chair will succeed in its mission to consolidate the Party and, at the same time, the institute of social democracy in Germany and in European fora.<\/p>\n

A DPM delegation, led by Mrs. Violeta Ivanov, a member of the Moldovan Parliament, was present at the conference dedicated to the elections held inside the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Mrs. Ivanov transmitted a congratulatory message from the DPM leader, Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc, and pointed out the good relations existing between the Democratic Party of Moldova and the Social Democratic Party of Germany.<\/p>\n

\u201eWe wanted to congratulate Mrs. Nahles for her victory and for her performance as the first woman elected as leader of the SDP. Also, during our visit to Germany, we had met with a number of German social democrats and engaged in discussions on the future of social democracy, in general, and of Moldovan \u2013 German relations. I would like to mention, in particular, the meeting held with Mr. Olaf Scholz, Germany\u2019s Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister, during which we expressed our sincere gratitude for the financial assistance that Germany and the EU provided to the Republic of Moldova\u201d, Violeta Ivanov said. She also stated that she had met a number of Bundestag members (Germany\u2019s Parliament), and invited them to visit Moldova, among other things, to monitor the Parliamentary elections, which are to take place at the end of this year.<\/p>\n

In the margins of the Conference, the DPM delegation met with Mrs. Elke Ferner, president of SDP Women\u2019s Organization, Mr. Hubertus Heil, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Mr. Axel Sch\u00e4fer, member of the Council of Europe, Mrs. Christine Lambrecht, member of Bundestag and with Mr. Pedro S\u00e1nchez, Vice-President of the Socialist International.<\/p>\n

The first woman, in the 155 years SDP history, to be elected as SDP Chair, got 66,35% of votes, beating her opponent, Mrs. Simone Lange, mayor of Flensburg (located in Schleswig Holstein), and, now, occupies the position previously held by Mr. Martin Schulz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
