On 3 November, the political representatives of the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian administration signed the agreement on the opening of the bridge connecting Gura B\u00eecului and B\u00eecioc over Nistru river. The approximate date of opening is said to be 20 November 2017.<\/p>\n

The important bridge, located on the M14 international route, is expected to be opened until the end of November for free movement of people, vehicles, and goods from both banks of Nistru river. The signatories of the so-called protocol, Moldova Reintegration Minister, Gheorghe B\u0103lan, and the Transnistrian “foreign minister”, Vitaly Ignatiev, also agreed to undertake necessary measures, with the help of international experts, to evaluate the technical state of the bridge and the potential reparation costs. The protocol states that the involved parties would ask other participants of the 5+2 format to financially support the renovation of the bridge and the related M14 route, including on Ukraine’s territory.<\/p>\n

The parties committed to not use Gura B\u00eecului-B\u00eecioc bridge for military goals\u00a0<\/strong>and offered the Joint Control Commission the authority to open the bridge.<\/p>\n

The head of the OSCE Mission, Michael Scanlan, called<\/a> the day “historic” and\u00a0expressed confidence that additional agreements would be reached in the next months<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Gura B\u00eecului-B\u00eecioc bridge over Nistru river was blown up by the Transnistrian separatist forces in 1992, then reconstructed in 2000 with the European financial support, but could not be inaugurated due to political misunderstandings between Chi\u0219in\u0103u and Tiraspol.<\/p>\n
