The Russian Federation insists on holding a 5+2 meeting regarding the Transnistrian conflict settlement before the end of 2017. The statement was made by the Russian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Grigory Karasin, to Izvestya<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Karasin said that a meeting is needed so that the situation in the region “doesn’t get to the boiling point”,\u00a0<\/em>but didn’t point out what is the problem with the regional situation. Moreover, the Russian Minister reminded that Russia has been insisting on a 5+2 meeting for months and waited for the call of the Austrian Chairmanship of OSCE:<\/p>\n

“It is unclear why the Austrian Chairmanship of OSCE hesitates, motivating that every official 5+2 meeting should end with the signing of major agreements between Chi\u0219in\u0103u and Tiraspol”<\/em>, says Karasin, calling for enabling the tactics of “pragmatic steps”.<\/p>\n

Recently, representatives of the Moldovan Government, Russia, the US, the EU and the OSCE agreed<\/a> that there are enough premises to have a 5+2 negotiations round until the end of November 2017.<\/p>\n

5+2 negotiations regard the talks on the conflict resolution between the separatist authorities of the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic and the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova, together with the OSCE, Russia, and Ukraine as mediators, and the EU and the US as observers.<\/p>\n
