On September 13th, the Moldovan President Igor Dodon responded to the initiative of the Democrat oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc<\/a> on changing the Constitution in order to make “European integration” a strategic orientation.<\/p>\n

“The geopolitical vector cannot be decided by one party or another. It’s the people of the Republic of Moldova who can decide it at the referendum. If the Democratic Party continues to insist on this approach, my only solution will be, according to the Constitution, to initiate a consultative referendum on the external vector. And believe me, people will not vote for the European integration. I do not want to further divide the society on this issue, I want to leave it after the parliamentary elections, but if you go on this approach, it will be blocked and a referendum will be held,”<\/em> declared Igor Dodon at the Wednesday press briefing, September 13th.<\/p>\n
