The so-called Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (PMR) will request the status of observer member at the United Nations, reports Novostipmr.com<\/a> in reference to the recent statement of the separatist president Vadim Krasnoselsky from September 6th.<\/p>\n

Krasnoselsky asked<\/a> the local legislative, the Supreme Soviet, to support the request to the UN, bringing up the fact that the “self-proclaimed” republic is more than 27 years old and has more than 500 thousand of people that are represented at the international level:<\/p>\n

“I propose to jointly address the UN with a request to offer Transnistria a special status. There are examples in the world practice- Palestine. (…) We have a full right to<\/em> that”,\u00a0<\/em>said Krasnoselsky, quoted by TASS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition, the president republic claimed that the 5+2 dialogue format does not work and that Moldova does not fulfill previously made commitments, and thus a new platform for presenting a position is needed. Krasnoselsky of course reminded his total opposition towards the proposal of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the withdrawal of Russian Federation troops from the eastern part<\/a>– Transnistria.<\/p>\n

According to the historian Gheorghe Cojocaru<\/a>, the announcement made by the separatist authorities is nothing but an attempt to worsen Moldova’s status in the United Nations, because there are little chances of recognition as an observer for PMR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
