Apparently, the Moldovan delegation in the Joint Control Commission interrupted the Russian and Transnistrian troops from holding a joint military exercise on Nistru river.<\/p>\n

On August 1st, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) issued a press-release expressing concern and dismay regarding the current preparations for unauthorized military exercises that include crossing Nistru river, right in the middle of the Security Area (Zona de Securitate- Romanian).<\/p>\n

According to the press-release, on 31 of July, military vehicles and equipment started to be deployed on the “soldiers’ beach” close to Ternovca village of Slobozia district. The military observers of Joint Control Commission were initially blocked by the military commandment of the Transnistrian “peacekeepers” from monitoring the situation. The Moldovan delegation draws the attention that the move violates the protocol decision from 13 January 2017 and the agreement of the co-presidents to refrain from any unilateral actions that would lead to destabilizing the situation in the Security Area.<\/p>\n

Only after two hours and the withdrawal of the military vehicles and equipment without announcing the Joint Military Commandment, the military observers could approach the location, where they reportedly found one military vehicle without any identification signs.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan delegation to JCC qualifies the aforementioned actions conducted by the Transnistrian party with the help of the Russian peacekeeping contingent<\/em> as\u00a0provocative,\u00a0<\/em>since they do not take place for the first time. Last year, the Operative Group of Russian Troops illegally stationing in Transnistria held a joint military exercise<\/a> with the Transnistrian troops on Nistru river in the middle of August- a period agreed to be one for no military action from any party (Moldovan, Transnistrian or Russian). The Moldovan delegation believes the cooperation between the Russian peacekeepers and the Transnistrian armed forces in this kind of exercises violates the current status of the peacekeeping mission<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Transnistrian media reports that the separatist armed forces are conducting helicopter maneuvering exercises.<\/a>\u00a0In their turn, the Western Military District of the Russian Federation announces that the Operative Group of the Russian Troops is holding\u00a0team-building\u00a0<\/em>activities within the military units, along with exercises of positional and maneuvering defense. The Russian soldiers are reportedly being trained<\/a> for transfer into the peacekeeping forces in October this year.<\/p>\n

Besides the 402 so-called peacekeepers, Russia holds the Operative Group of the Russian Forces in Transnistria containing approximately 1200 regular soldiers, mainly recruited from the Transnistrian locals.
