On July 4th, the Government of Moldova gave a green light<\/a> to the draft law of some deputies on the introduction of lunch tickets. According to the Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu, one of the authors, the lunch tickets would motivate the employees, raise their income, as well as adapt them to healthy eating habits.<\/p>\n

The draft stipulates that the employers would have to provide the lunch tickets of 45 lei (approx. 2,25 euros) to the employees. The paper-based or electronic lunch tickets would not be taxed or taken as part to the social and medical insurance funds.<\/p>\n

The proposal needs to be consulted with the trade unions and the business associations and then approved by the Parliament.<\/p>\n

Maia Sandu, former Presidential candidate and leader of Action and Solidarity Party, criticized the draft law because it would decrease the real income of the employees and legalize fiscal evasion for food sellers.<\/p>\n

In the context of the proposal, a Chi\u0219in\u0103u-based think-tank, CPR Moldova, proposed<\/a> instead to decrease the VAT from 20 to 8 percent.<\/p>\n
