On July 3rd, the Moldovan President, Igor Dodon, had two meetings with over 100 Orthodox priests from the north of Moldova and discussed the relation between the Church and the Society. During the discussion, Dodon stressed that he is for adopting a new law for the religious groups and reiterated his position to repeal the so-called law on sexual minorities.<\/p>\n

“If we don’t preserve the Church, Moldova does not have future as state. Yes, the Church is separated from the state and it is right this way. The state should not involve in the work of the Church. We have the same goal to save the state of the Republic of Moldova. I know a new law of the religions is needed. I talked with Mitropolit Vladimir on this topic. I will ask and I will obtain, if not now, then later, the repeal of the law of sexual minorities”<\/em>, said Dodon.<\/p>\n

The President also emphasized that the Orthodoxy is the force that consolidates the ethnicities in Moldova and forms the Moldovan identity. Dodon even found time to laud a local leader of the Orthodox Church in northern Moldova, Marchel, calling for appreciation of his\u00a0patriotic position\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0intolerance towards those who undermine the social morality.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dodon might not remember or exaggerates, because the so-called “law of the sexual minorities” is nothing but a clause in the Equality Law adopted in 2012 by 53 out of 101 deputies of the Moldovan Parliament. The clause stipulates that nobody should be discriminated\u00a0at employment and at work\u00a0<\/strong>based on his or her sexual orientation (Lege nr.121 cu privire la asigurarea egalit\u0103\u021bii, 25.05.2012):<\/p>\n

“Banning discrimination on base of sexual orientation will be applied in the domain of employment and entering the workforce”,\u00a0<\/em>reads the law.<\/p>\n

Even if the Communists and the Socialists criticized the law for forming some base for homosexual families, the law clearly states that it does not cover the\u00a0family relations, adoption relations, as well as the religious groups and their beliefs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So which “law of the sexual minorities” do you mean, President Dodon? One can see only a short clause.<\/p>\n
