Suspected of huge frauds by the current separatist administration, former president of the breakaway Transnistria, Evgeny Shevchuk, found refuge on the right bank of Nistru river- territory controlled by the constitutional authorities, where nobody would expect a Transnistrian politician to refuge in.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Shevchuk chose<\/a> (or had to choose) the right bank to escape from a potential assasination ordered by the Transnistrian “Sheriff” corporation chief, Victor Gushan. In several Facebook posts, the former so-called president took up to explain that his former boss (Shevchuk previously worked for Sheriff) actually controls the government in the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic through his proxies in the Supreme Soviet and the current leader Vadim Krasnoselski. In his opinion, the region’s prosecutors illegally conducted searches at his\u00a0Dacha\u00a0<\/em>in Stroentzy village in Rybnitsa district, at the same time by threatening his parents.<\/p>\n

Even if he is disgrace at Chi\u0219in\u0103u, Shevchuk managed to find a safe refuge for him and his family. Moldova’s Reintegration Minister, Gheorghe Balan, says there is no valid mechanism to extradite Shevchuk to Tiraspol and that his stay is permitted. Moreover, he could be allowed to exercise his right to be citizen of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

“Evgeny Shevchuk does not have problems with law enforcement organs from the right bank of Nistru, he can stay as long as he can on the constitutional territory of the Republic of Moldova”<\/em>, said Balan in an interview for Deschide.md<\/a>,\u00a0stressing that any kidnapping would not be tolerated. The same was confirmed by the Prosecutor General of Moldova, Eduard Harunjen, who also promised to examine requests to investigate Shevchuk for “treason”.<\/p>\n

On June 28th, the Supreme Soviet of the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (PMR), the so-called parliament of the separatist region, approved<\/a> the demand of the region\u2019s prosecutor general to lift the immunity of the former president Evgeny Shevchuk.\u00a0According to prosecutor general Anatolyi Guretski, Shevchuk created<\/a> a \u201cstabilization fund\u201d and directed payments for consumed gas of approximately 83 million \u201cPridnestrovian rubles\u201d- some 8 million USD.<\/p>\n
