On 30 June 2017, the Parliament of Moldova approved<\/a>\u00a0with a simple majority the draft law on the reform of the Government.<\/p>\n

Part of the plan for reforming the public administration, the draft law, say authors, is aiming at consolidating the responsibilities of the government officials, as well as at the delimitation of political and administrative functions.<\/p>\n

According to Iurie Ciocan, head of the Government’s Center for Reform Implementation, the only political positions will be those of the Ministers, while the others will be appointed based on integrity principles. Some positions like that of Vice-Minister would be eliminated in favor of the administrative “Secretaries” who could exercise the interim capacity too.<\/p>\n

The draft law also mentions that the Prime-Minister has the right to define the names and number of the Ministries, which could be possibly reduced from 16 to 9<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the “\u00cen Profunzime” talk-show at ProTV, Moldova ex-Ambassador to the US and administration expert, Igor Munteanu, declared that the reform of the Government should be welcomed, but that there is a need for radical solutions to ensure that “the public service is solid, has strict competences in legislation, for (<\/em>government officials)\u00a0to have bigger salaries and that there is a meritocratic system of selecting the public servants”<\/em>.<\/p>\n
