On 28 June 2017, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM)\u00a0adopted a decision<\/a> to adjust the short-term monetary policy.<\/p>\n

The base rate on short-term monetary policy operations was decreased from the 9% to 8%. The interest rates for overnight loans were decreased to 11%, while the rates for the deposits- to 5%.<\/p>\n

The decision states that the required reserves ratio from financial means attracted in freely convertible currency would be maintained at the level of 14% of the base. Those attracted in MDL (Moldovan leu) and non-convertible currency would be maintained at the level of 40%.<\/p>\n

The decision shows that the annual inflation rate constituted 7,4% in May 2017, 0,8% more than in April. The core inflation rate constituted 4,8% in February, 0,1% lower than in the previous month.<\/p>\n

NBM argues that the decision is based on the macroeconomic dynamics, that create premises for moderation of economic activity and diminishing of medium term inflation pressures, but also because of the moderate over-appreciation of the national currency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
