Only two weeks before the constitutional end of his preventive arrest<\/a>, businessman, banker and Orhei mayor, Ilan Shor,\u00a0decided to be represented by two foreign law companies: Byrne&Partners from London and DRD Partnership.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by his usual lawyers Denis Ulanov and Iulian Balan that have represented the former Banca de Economii chairman for more than two years. Ulanov still insists that his client was not “the architect, nor the real beneficiary of the events that led to the failure of the banks”<\/em>. In his turn, Balan declared that Short decided to defend himself and protect his reputation because of current\u00a0significant impediments\u00a0<\/em>for exercising his mayor mandate and have\u00a0a normal life<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Yvonne Jefferies and Michael Potts from Byrne&Partners will represent Shor in the court. B&P is known for defending clients in the former Soviet Union and even against the same investigation company, Kroll. The lawyers will be assisted by communication experts from DRD Partnership, that has experience in defending clients in commercial disputes, including the former Yukos management. Coincidence or not, Shor just got a defensive statement<\/a> from an Italian MEP from Lega Nord (ENF Group), Lorenzo Fontana.<\/p>\n
