The checkpoints “Giurgiule\u0219ti-Reni” and “Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe” between Ukraine and Moldova will act as joint control checkpoints. Protocols were signed in this regard by the Customs Offices and the Border Police forces of Moldova and Ukraine at Soroca on June 5th.<\/p>\n

According to the documents, the control at “Giurgiule\u0219ti-Reni” will be conducted in Ukraine, while the control at “Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe”- on Moldova’s territory. Accordingly, the goal of this move is to ensure the security of the frontier, national security, public order, economic prosperity of both countries, as well as preventing and fighting trans-border crime, international terrorism and its financing.<\/p>\n

The protocols are part of the 1997 Accord between Ukraine and Moldova on organizing joint checkpoints at “Criva-Mamalyga”, “Medvezha-Zelyonaya”, “Larga-Kelmentzy”, “Briceni-Rossoshany”, “Cuciurgan-Pervomaisk”, “Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe” and “Giurgiule\u0219ti-Reni”. The concept is also conditional in the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.<\/p>\n
