On May 19th, the Anti-Corruption Center of Moldova, together with the Security and Intelligence Service, conducted 17\u00a0searches<\/a> in several offices of the National Agency of Food Safety. The searches regarded the penal cases on the fake Moldovan origin certificates issued for apples from Poland, who were exported to Russia through Belarus.<\/p>\n

4\u00a0employees of the Moldovan Food Safety Agency (ANSA), as well as two businessmen, have been arrested for 72 hours as primary suspects in these bogus exports. The arrested persons are suspected of power abuse and fraud that heavily damaged the state budget.<\/p>\n

The ANSA employees are suspected of issuing national certificates to economic agents exporting apples from Poland to Russia, through Belarus, without even crossing Moldova’s borders. Back in March\u00a02016, Russia banned the apple exports through Belarus because of suspicions of EU origins<\/a>. The businessmen are suspected of illegally deducting the VAT, worth 260000 lei, from the exports.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors<\/a> might ask for imprisonment for up to 10 years for the ANSA employees and up to 15 years for frauds for the businessmen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
