On May 18th, the leader\u00a0of the Liberal Party, Mihai Ghimpu, declared that his party initiates to collect signatures for referendum to dismiss the President Igor Dodon. The Liberals are accusing Dodon of “toxic actions that are incompatible with the President position”.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Liberal Party accuses Dodon of violating the Constitution when he congratulated the so-called president of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (Transnistria) with the “victory at elections”, but also when he pledged to federalize the Republic.<\/p>\n

Another cause invoked by the Blues is the participation of Igor Dodon at the military parade from May 9th in Moscow<\/a> and his request for Moldova to get the observer status within the Eurasian Economic Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“The Liberal Party is convinced that there are enough circumstances that justify firing the President of the Republic, including for violating the oath he took to respect the Constitution and the country laws, to defend democracy, fundamental human rights and liberties, sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Moldova”<\/em>, says Ghimpu.<\/p>\n

The Liberals previously tried to impeach<\/a> the President through referendum called by the Parliament, but their initiative did not get more than 33 signatures of MPs, not even those of the allied Democrats.<\/p>\n
