The International Monetary Fund is forecasting an economic growth of 4,5 percent for the Republic of Moldova in 2017. The forecast presented in the “World Economic Outlook, April 2017”<\/a> is more optimistic than that from last October- 3%, and coincides with that of the Moldovan Economy Ministry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For\u00a02018, the IMF projects a 3,7% growth.<\/p>\n

The current account balance is expected to go even more negative- from -3,4% in 2016 to -3,8% in 2017 and 4% in 2018. The consumer prices are expected to increase by 5,5% in 2017 and 5,9% in 2018, while the unemployment rate will stay more or less the same- 4,2-4,3%.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s GDP growth in 2017 will be only 2%, while Romania’s growth will account 4,2%.<\/p>\n

Moldova\u2019s three-year IMF program, approved on November 7, 2016<\/a>, is supported by a loan of SDR 129.4 million (about US$176 million, or 75 percent of the Republic of Moldova\u2019s quota), of which SDR 26 million (about US$35 million) have been already disbursed. Two thirds of the loan are provided under the Extended Credit Facility, which carries a zero interest rate through 2018, a grace period of 5\u00bd years, and a 10-year maturity. The rest of the loan is provided under the Extended Fund Facility, which carries an annual interest rate equal to the SDR basic rate of charge (currently 1.3 percent), and is repayable over 10 years with a 4\u00bd -year grace period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
