Starting from 26 March 2017, the Chi\u0219in\u0103u International Airport started<\/a> to operate according to the new summer schedule for 2017. Thus, the airport will have 40 destinations and host 19 airlines\u00a0from now on.<\/p>\n

8 new routes have been introduced this season. Moldovan “Fly One” launched 5 new flights to and from Birmingham (UK), Izmir (Turkey), Moscow-Vnukovo (Russia), Valencia (Spain), Voronezh (Russia). State-owned Air Moldova is to include two new routes to Krasnodar (Russia) and Zakynthos (Greece), while the Hungarian Wizz Air will operate the flights to and from Berlin (Germany) two times a week.<\/p>\n

The frequency of the flights to and from Barcelona, London, Milano, Moscow, Rome, St. Petersburg and Venice was increased for the summer time.<\/p>\n

The International Airport of Chi\u0219in\u0103u concession to Avia-Invest under dubious conditions<\/a> in 2013 has been a subject of controversy in the Moldovan society as a case of high-level corruption. Avia-Invest is considered to be an off-shore company with dubious shareholders and almost no experience in the aviatic services industry. The even more dubious businessman and mayor of Orhei, Ilan Shor<\/a>, is the head of the administration council of Avia-Invest. Shor\u2019s Air Klassica<\/a>, a service provider in the airport, received a 40,4 million lei loan from the defrauded Unibank<\/a> in 2014.<\/p>\n

Even if the AntiCorruption Center recommended the cancelling of the contract in August 2015, the Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari found no reasons for that and the prosecutors didn\u2019t do anything to investigate the concession of the Chi\u0219in\u0103u airport, in the context of its rapidly growing traffic and profit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
