On March 23rd, during the joint meeting of Moldova and Romania Governments<\/a> at Piatra-Neam\u021b, the Prime-Ministers Pavel Filip and Sorin Grindeanu, respectively, announced new details about the gas pipeline Ungheni-Chi\u0219in\u0103u.<\/p>\n

According to Agora.md<\/a>, the two governments announced the news that the European Commission is going to increase the amount of the grant for the pipeline from 10 to 40 million euros.<\/p>\n

Both Filip and Grindeanu emphasized that the pipeline would be finished until 2019.<\/p>\n

“Concerning\u00a0the development of Ungheni-Chi\u0219in\u0103u pipeline, we will do everything possible to realize this project until the end of 2018. Shortly, we will have the project ready and we will start the very construction. As mister Grindeanu said, we have good news. The European Commission decided to increase the grant share for this project from 10 million euros to 40 million euros”,\u00a0<\/em>announced PM Filip.<\/p>\n

The approximate calculations estimate that the total cost of building the Ungheni-Chi\u0219in\u0103u gas pipeline would be 113 million euros. The European Union would contribute to the project with a grant of 40 million euros\u00a0for the two phases of the project, while the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will\u00a0offer a 41 million euros loan<\/a>. European Investment Bank would give a loan of 41 million euros<\/a>.
\nRomania offered 550 thousand euros<\/a> as a grant for the construction of the pipeline and other 350 thousand euros<\/a> for the building of gas distribution center in Ungheni.<\/p>\n

The previously built pipeline<\/a> of 43 km from the Romanian city of Ia\u0219i to the Moldovan city of Ungheni was able to transport up to 1,5 billion cubic meters of natural gas but it was finally agreed to deliver only 50 million cubic meters per year, due to the low price of the Russian gas provided by Gazprom. The 120 kilometers long and 600 millimeters wide pipeline would allow Moldova to import more natural gas from Romania, thus enhancing the security of energy supply.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
